Robert Allen Gillie, 68, of Vermilion, died Monday, November 6, 2017 at his home after a sudden illness.

Robert was born May 24, 1949 in Youngstown, OH and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 24 years moving from McDonald, OH.

He was a veteran of the US Army serving during Vietnam.

Robert worked for Republic Steel as a Millwright for 44 years retiring in 2014.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #397, Amvets Post #22, US Steel Workers Union, and participated with the Vermilion Veterans Council Honor Guard. Robert enjoyed golfing, playing pool, and spending time with his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Laura (nee Chisum) Gillie of Vermilion; sons, William Gillie of Girard, George (Christina) Gillie of Niles, and Michael Gillie of Vermilion; daughter, Amber (Bryan Bunn) Gillie of Vermilion; grandchildren: Robert, George, Morgan, Rowan, Ciara, and Tyler; sister, Glenda (Paul) Hrosch of Youngstown and Rosann (Leo) DiVencenzo of Lordstown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Ellen (nee McMaster) Gillie; brother, Jack Gillie, and his sister, Sara Fuller.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 11, 2017 from 2:00 pm until the time of a Memorial Service at 4:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. The Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors just prior to the memorial service at 4:00 pm.
