Ernest Otto Stone, 81, of Vermilion, died Thursday, March 16, 2017 during surgery to realign a broken hip at Mercy Regional Medical Center.

He was born July 1, 1935 in Duffield, VA, and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 56 years moving from Virginia.

Ernest was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War.

He worked for Ford Motor Co., Lorain retiring after 40 years.

Ernest was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. Together with his wife, they built a loving home where people loved to gather and were always welcome. He also enjoyed his pets, fishing, gardening, auto races, bee keeping, music, and helping others.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bobbie L. (nee Bloomer) Stone; daughter, Barbara (Christopher) Gallagher of Vermilion, grandchildren, Kelly Neale and Shannon Neale; sisters, Helen Hornbeck of Elyria and Betty Davis of Duffield, VA; and his brothers, Jake Stone Jr. of Duffield, VA, Martin Stone of Gastonia, NC, and Gary Stone of Maryland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Ethel (nee Collier) Stone; daughter, Vivian Chmielewski; sisters, Ruth Shephard, Thelma Peterson, and Glenda Lane; and an infant brother, Robert Stone.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. The Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct Military Honors just prior to the funeral service.
